The Blues are set to battle Newcastle for the winger.
Newcastle are reported to have entered the battle to add Leandro Trossard. Brighton’s former sporting director, Dan Ashworth, currently plying his trade for the Magpies, is keeping close tabs on Belgium international’s deal situation on the south coast and is keen to bring him to St. James’ Park on a bargain deal.Trossard. |
Trossard joined the Seagulls in 2019, the exact summer in which now-Chelsea coach Graham Potter was hired as a manager at the south coast outfit. Leandro has since turned out to be one of the club’s standout footballers in recent campaigns, having racked up 36 goal contributions in 113 matches.
The 27-year-old attacker enjoyed his best output to date last campaign, finding the back of the net eight times in 35 games. The Belgian forward also seems ready to be included in Roberto Martinez’s squad for the winter World Cup.
However, the Belgian’s current contract at Amex expires at the end of the campaign. The Seagulls are keen to offer him lucrative terms in order to secure his long-term future with the south coast outfit, but they will face a tough battle to retain their prized asset.
The Blues, for one, have identified Leandro as one of their priority targets, and hold the trump card in coach Graham Potter, who shares a healthy relationship with him from their time together at Brighton and is keen to bring him to Chelsea since Trossard understands his tactics and philosophy.
