£180,000-per-week world class Spaniard explains why he chose Chelsea over Barcelona.

The Spaniard has explained his decision to stay at Chelsea despite strong links with La Liga giants, Barcelona.

Chelsea captain, Cesar Azpilicueta has explained his decision to remain at Chelsea despite a move to Barcelona heavily on the cards during the last transfer window.

Barcelona were closely on the chase for Marcos Alonso and the Chelsea captain, and with so many Chelsea targets choosing the Catalonian side over Stamford Bridge, Azpilicueta decided to remain with Chelsea and pledged his allegiance by signing a fresh two-year deal.

"At Chelsea I played less than 30 games [last season] and I was already a free agent. It had never happened to me in my life. The new owners arrived and showed me that they wanted me to stay," he explained.

"London is my home and my children speak better English than Spanish. When I made the decision, I think Xavi understood. If things are clear, they are understood."

Under Potter, the Chelsea captain is a regular starter and has featured in 17 games this season. He has also featured in two of Spain's games in the world cup, registering a cleansheet in one, and an assist in the second.
