Thomas Tuchel wants two Chelsea players to join him at Bayern Munich.
According to Italian outlet CalcioMercatoWeb, Thomas Tuchel is eyeing a double swoop for Edouard Mendy and Mateo Kovacic. Recall the former Chelsea Manager was appointed Bayern Munich Manager on Friday, following the sack of Julian Nagelsmann.Per new reports, he wants both Mateo Kovacic and Edouard Mendy to join him at his new club. The duo were an integral part of Tuchel's squad during his time at Chelsea. It was in his era that Edouard Mendy starred as the Blues' number one, and Kovacic & Jorginho featuring as the Blues' major midfield pairing.
Mendy, as per the Sun, rejected a six-year-long contract in December as he believed the Blues did not show enough respect with their offer. The former Stade Rennais goalkeeper has played just nine league games this term and has been sidelined with a shoulder injury since December.
Bayern Munich will also need to replace Manuel Neuer (36) in the near future, whose contract expires in the summer of 2024.
Kovacic, meanwhile, is one of manager Graham Potter's preferred midfielders alongside Enzo Fernandez. Mendy and Kovacic are apparently valued at a combined £43.9 million. Offloading Mendy would make sense if the west London giants want to continue with Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal.
Kovacic, however, could be hard to prise away from SW6. The former Real Madrid midfielder has featured in 27 games across competitions this season, during which he has led the team out on the pitch four times as captain.
