• Kai Havertz had spoken on a potential reunion with Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich.
• Bayern CEO responds.
• Chelsea face £100M transfer dilemma should Havertz leave for Munich.
Bayern Munich CEO, Oliver Kahn has responded to Kai Havertz's claims of wanting to move to the German outfit to re-unite with former boss, Thomas Tuchel. Havertz had been a subject of transfer interest from Bayern Munich in the past, with the German reported to have turned down such offers, and rather stick with Chelsea instead. However, a recent interview suggests that he could be open to a move to the Bundesliga giants to re-unite with Thomas Tuchel.
When asked if he would love to work with Tuchel again at Bayern Munich, Havertz replied, per FourFourTwo:
“Bayern are generally a huge club that it’s hard to say no to as a German player, but my personal goal has always been to play abroad at some point. In England or Spain.
“I had a very good relationship with [Tuchel] and am very grateful for everything.
“You never know what will happen in football. Everything can happen very quickly. Never say never.”
Havertz has been a favourite for many Chelsea managers, including Tuchel. The German thrived well under him, and was crucial to all three of the club's European victories in his era and a move to work under the former boss may not come as a surprise to many.
However, Bayern Munich CEO, Oliver Kahn has responded to Kai Havertz's transfer claims of a potential move to Munich in the future. When asked about Havertz, he told BILD, via Twitter user @iMiaSanMia: "It doesn't make sense to mention it right now. As I said, our focus is fully on this season and not on future topics. We are not discussing new signings with Tuchel now.”
Chelsea could face the dilemma of losing their star forward should Kai Havertz move to Bayern Munich. Another game drawing a blank further hints at the importance of bringing a natural number nine to the club. Havertz has given it his best shot in what is a position that doesn't suit his strengths, but the Blues remain in desperate need of a striker.
Under a new manager in Potter, or perhaps someone else, Romelu Lukaku, who joined the club in 2019 for a fee just shy of £100m, could be given another chance especially after scoring four goals for Belgium in the international break. Alternatively, Napoli star Victor Osimhen seems to certainly be on the Blues' wish list, however given his importance to the Italian club they will likely demand upwards of £100M.
