John Terry reacts to Reece James' appointment as Chelsea captain instead of Thiago Silva.

The Chelsea Legend has reacted to Reece James' appointment as Chelsea captain.

Chelsea legend John Terry has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the news that Reece James had been named the new club captain.

He shared his delight at the decision made by the club, simultaneously congratulating the 23-year-old on what is no doubt a huge honour.

Given the fact that Terry held down the position of captain for over a decade at Stamford Bridge, his opinion on who has the armband is more important than most on the situation.

There was a decision to be made by Mauricio Pochettino on who would be named the leader of Chelsea for the coming seasons after a number of the senior players departed the club this year.

Cesar Azpilicueta has moved to Atletico Madrid, whilst they have also recently said goodbye to Jorginho, N’golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic.

Because of this, the England international was selected for the role, with Ben Chilwell handed the responsibility of vice-captain.

Plenty of the current squad took to social media to voice their thrills at the decision made by the club to give James the armband.

It was likely to be between James and Thiago Silva for the role, although it is likely that the Brazil international is now entering his final season in West London.Another figure who was impressed is Terry, who tweeted:

“Love This Chelsea, congratulations Reece James.”

The 23-year-old will now be hopeful that the majority of his injury problems have been put behind him, and he can represent the Blues on the pitch back to his best.

The same will go for his fellow wing-back Chilwell, who has newfound competition in Ian Maatsen to hold off for a place in the squad this season.

CONFIRMED: Todd Boehly finally decides on FIVE players who will be leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Todd Boehly has decided he will offload five Chelsea players.  Since taking over as Co-owner of Chelsea, it has not clicked for Todd Boehly despite splashing the cash to sign some of the big names in world football.  Consecutive run of losses and sloppy display from players are two core reasons the Blues will be considering a squad overhaul this summer, and five players will be offloaded. According to a report from the Spanish publication SPORT, it is claimed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are being lined up for sale which could raise a whopping £129 million. If the market values of the players in question are met, it would provide the incoming Chelsea manager with a hefty transfer chest to spend and bring in a couple of new faces to bolster the squad over the summer.
